Nine Days in Dublin: Studying Abroad with Kelley’s BUS-X272
As a senior at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, I can say that studying abroad has been one of the most memorable parts of my college experience. During my sophomore year, I took BUS-X272 and traveled to Dublin, Ireland. The course gave me the chance to learn about international business, explore a new country, and experience its culture firsthand.
BUS-X272 combines academic learning with international experience. Students choose from several country and topic options, then complete eight weeks of coursework before spending about nine days abroad. In the Ireland program, our coursework covered the country’s history and its modern high-tech services industry.
Once we arrived in Dublin, we explored those same topics in person through business visits, cultural activities, and time together as a class. Visiting companies such as Salesforce gave us a closer look at Ireland’s tech sector and how businesses operate in a global environment.
Beyond our business visits, we experienced other parts of Irish life. We explored the coastal town of Howth, attended a rugby match, and enjoyed a traditional Irish dinner and dance performance. Seeing these sides of Ireland connected what we studied before the trip with the country’s business environment and culture.
Looking back, X272 showed me how much a short, structured program can offer. In just over a week, I saw the ideas from our coursework come to life and gained a new perspective on how culture shapes business.
Kelley offers a wide range of study abroad opportunities, from short programs like X272 to full semesters abroad. If you are considering studying abroad, I encourage you to explore the options and find the program that fits your interests and goals. It is an experience you will carry with you long after graduation.
